NEW, DEMOCRATIC FORMS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FROM THE GROUND UP
WE ALL CAN BE URBAN PRACTITIONERS
UNLEASHING THE CREATIVITY OF PEOPLE TO IMPROVE THEIR CITIES
Manifesto
THE KEY TO FIXING OUR BROKEN PATTERNS OF #URBAN DEVELOPMENT DOES NOT LIE IN GRAND PLANS OR GIANT PROJECTS.
RATHER IT LIES IN THE COLLECTIVE INITIATIVE AND ENERGY OF PEOPLE.
Massive Small theory shows how by using simple structuring rules for urban development, based on understanding the city as a complex system, government and people can collaborate in making places that are adaptive and can meet the challenges of the future.
With roots in the great urban theorists such as Jane Jacobs, Christopher Alexander and E. F. Schumacher, we integrate this thinking with Complexity Theory and a scientific understanding of #Sustainability and #Resilience in cities.
Massive Small works with cities as they really are – deeply complex systems, wherein over prescriptive regulation proves unpredictable and ineffective. As such it offers an alternative to our current highly mechanistic model of urban development.
We are here to support you in making your city work, whether you are a member of the community, professional, politician, civil servant or academic.
